Mumbai, [Date] – Following the recent encounter of Akshay Shinde, the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case involving two four-year-old girls, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed strong support for the Thane Police. Shinde was killed in an alleged shoot-out while being transported by police for questioning.
In an interview with India Today, Fadnavis stated, “We do not believe in encounters. I personally believe that the rule of law must be followed, and the criminal must be punished swiftly. However, our police will not clap if attacked.” His remarks come in light of the police’s assertion that they acted in self-defense during the incident.
The encounter took place near the Mumbra bypass after Shinde allegedly opened fire on police with their own revolver. Fadnavis emphasized the importance of lawful justice while also acknowledging the challenging situations faced by law enforcement officers.
Following the encounter, posters featuring Fadnavis with a revolver and the phrase “Badla Pura” (revenge completed) appeared across Mumbai, a development he condemned. “The glorification of such incidents is absolutely wrong,” he stated, reinforcing the need for a balanced approach to justice.
The state government remains committed to ensuring that justice is served while upholding the principles of law and order.
