Veteran statesman and visionary leader S.M. Krishna, who played a transformative role in shaping Karnataka’s growth story and India’s diplomatic stature, passed away at his residence this morning. He was 92 and had been unwell for some time, according to his family.
A towering figure in Indian politics, Krishna’s illustrious career spanned decades, during which he held several high-profile positions. He served as External Affairs Minister of India, Governor of Maharashtra, Chief Minister of Karnataka, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, and Minister in the Karnataka government.
Krishna’s tenure as Karnataka’s Chief Minister was marked by revolutionary changes, particularly in the fields of information technology (IT) and biotechnology (BT). His strategic vision and ability to collaborate with industry leaders firmly established “Brand Bengaluru” on the global map, fostering the city’s emergence as India’s technology capital.
As External Affairs Minister, Krishna significantly advanced India’s global diplomacy, strengthening ties with key nations and promoting India’s economic and strategic interests on the international stage.
